Welcome to November! A short month ending in thanksgiving and celebration. 2nd Graders will be working through these next few weeks naming and sorting attributes of geo blocks, continuing to review number strands, collecting data, fractions, place value, reading and writing numbers, counting change to $1, sorting data and experiment with time and double digit addition.
Reading will include continued practice of the five star reading strategy for comprehension and test taking. After reading short passages students will work to read through comprehension and inferencing questions, count paragraphs, identify topic sentences and sort through supporting details. All of this is done in effort to identify story structure and provide answers found during reading or after reading. Being able to tell why and how we find answers is a very important skill to increase our depth of knowledge during learning.
Science will continue for a short time this month as we continue to discuss simple tools, force, friction and work. We will begin and complete soil and rock identification next week.
Social Studies will take over the second week of November as we begin our studies of Native Americans, their native lands, and the use of their natural resources used for barter, trade and survival.
Thank you for all you do! Our classroom is really become a community of learners.
XXOO,
Mrs. Little
